When to Change a Diaper
In the first couple of months, you may find yourself changing diapers up to 10 times in 24 hours. Diapers should be changed whenever they are wet or soiled. Your baby will often (but not always) let you know. With a super-absorbent diaper like Pampers diapers, you can tell if it's wet by feeling for lumps in the absorbent material.

Here are some common times for changing diapers:

  • Right before or right after every feeding
  • After every bowel movement
  • Before bedtime
  • When your baby wakes up
  • When you go out with your baby

The Art of Changing Diapers
Pampers Diapers are designed to adjust to your baby's shape for a snug, comfortable fit. While changing diapers there's no need to fold the waistband in or out or to adjust the leg cuffs.

  • Place tabs parallel to the waistband and centered on the character strip.
  • Use the characters as guides to ensure the fasteners are evenly spaced.
  • Keep baby products such as powder away from the fasteners so they maintain their stickiness.

Wiping baby bottoms

All Pampers baby wipes help clean away bacteria, even after a wet change. Have a supply handy while changing diapers to help keep your baby clean and fresh.

For baby girls, while changing diapers always wipe from front to back to minimize the amount of stool material that gets near her genitals. Also, be careful to clean all areas, as the folds in the skin around her genitals can hide urine and soil.

Treating and preventing diaper rash
Red bumps on your baby's bottom may mean diaper rash. It can be caused by many factors, including leaving urine or bowel movement on the skin too long between changing diapers or even as a result of taking antibiotics. And when your baby starts solid foods, wait a few days between introducing each new food to see if the rash was caused by a particular food.

If your baby has diaper rash, clean the entire diapered area gently but thoroughly with a baby wipe. It is also helpful to allow air to reach the skin. Talk to your pediatrician or pharmacist if the rash does not improve.

Finding the right size
Just like you, babies like to wear things that fit just right. Choose a size that does not sag or gap, even as your baby crawls and plays. This will help prevent leaks. Each product description on this site gives guidelines that represent the average weight for a particular size. And remember, when you move up a size, you gain absorbency.

Weighing babies
The easiest way to weigh your baby is to first hop on the scale yourself. See how much you weigh, then see how much you weigh when you hold your baby. If you subtract your weight, you'll know how much your baby weighs.

Safe diapering
You buy the latest toys and babies wind up playing with silly things - like diapers. It's important to keep diapers where they should be, on your baby's bottom. Don't let your baby put the diaper in her mouth. Discard any diaper that has become torn or unsealed, and read the warning label on all bags.

Diaper gel facts
AGM is the absorbent gelling material widely used in diaper padding to absorb wetness. It is perfectly normal to see some gel on the skin from time to time, especially if the diaper is heavily saturated. It can easily be removed by wiping your baby's skin.

This material has a long history of safe use in a variety of products and has been in diapers for more than a decade. Absorbent gelling material is closely related to ingredients widely used in cosmetics, in food processing and as binders in medicine capsules.

Waste removal

As the Pampers bag recommends, you'll want to dump bowel movements in the toilet. Then just roll the diaper into its backsheet, using the tape or fasteners to keep it closed, and dispose of it in the trash.

Diaper storage

Store your diapers in an area protected from extreme heat and humidity and away from products with fragrances. We recommend the diaper be kept in a dry storage area where the temperature is 85 degrees or less.

Correction - THEY ARE NOT THE SAME....Okay, I just went to Walmart to buy more diapers because I am seriously taking the big box back to Babies R Us. While at Walmart, I opened a Stage 5 Cruisers (small box) and it was super soft WITH the mesh liner. Then I opened a Stage 4 (small box) and it was harder with NO MESH just like the Baby Dry. I noticed the production number on the box and opened another Stage 5 with the same number and it was SOFT WITH MESH. So really PAMPERS - WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH OUR TRUSTED DIAPERS? I have a feeling that you are trying to cut corners while cutting costs and extending poor quality to use consumers. We parents buy Pampers Cruisers AND PAY EXTRA because they are WORTH IT. Please put the mesh liner and softness back in ALL Cruisers.

I too just opened up a Size 5 Cruisers box and the mesh liner is not there. This is the 2nd box I have bought and I take them back every time because I agree - THEY ARE THE SAME! My sister is also buying Stage 5 Cruisers but for some reason, she keeps getting the boxes WITH the mesh liner. So what gives...is she buying older production and I am getting newer???!!!! Confusing and I hate Pampers without the mesh liner. Will have to try Huggies!

PAMPERS PLEASE BRING BACK THE MESH LINER - EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED WITH THE NEW CHANGE. I just talked with a Pampers representative (glad that's not my job) to find out why the MESH LINER has been removed. I was told that it was a PERMANENT CHANGE, I never did find out WHY this change was made. I bought a jumbo box of size 5 Cruisers 2 weeks ago and within the first week of use we had 3 nights in a row with soaked pajamas and a rash along the leg opening...I'm sure the rash was due to the urine irritating his skin. This is when I realized that we either had an OLD box or a NEW version of Cruisers. I've switched our son back to a stash I had of the old mesh liner ones, not sure what I'm going to do when we run out. I thought for a minute that they accidentally shipped Baby Dry diapers in the wrong box, but nope these have the purple accents. IMO these new Cruisers look, feel and act like the less expensive Baby Dry (should be Baby Wet as we had constant leaks with them when we tried a box out). I also noticed that the new Cruisers absorbent pad doesn't go up in the front and back as far as the old version, could be part of the leaking problem? I'm all about updates and advancement with products THAT NEED IT, but this seems like a move to cut cost on Pampers part by removing the mesh liner (and replacing with the same Baby Dry liner) and taking away some of the absorbent pad. There was nothing wrong with the original Cruisers with mesh, they worked GREAT. I did ask if the Swaddlers still has the mesh and it does at this time, but you can bet that they will be next on the block for cutting costs. PLEASE BRING THE OLD CRUISERS BACK. If you are experiencing these same problems or others, please don't hesitate to call Pampers and complain. I only hope they listen to their users and not their budget/cost slashing executives.
